This month, we were invited to Richwood Coffee’s first Beneficiary Award Ceremony. Not only were we invited to hear how much Richwood has done for the community, but they asked us to share more of our story as well. Speeches are nothing new to us here at The Hub, so we decided to follow a different route. Rather than personally sharing, we asked one of our longtime students and friends to tell his story. Sean Perry won the crowd with his cheery antidotes and witty remarks. However, there was much more behind this story than the humor. Sean and his mother Sandy explained the hardships of growing up and raising a child with developmental differences.
Sean and his mother resided in Franklin County for most of Sean’s life. In 2022, they moved to Logan County. The transition from Urban living to rural living came with their own adjustments. Soon after the move, their new “Service Coordinator” referred them to Rocky’s program.
Sean was hesitant at first; but soon after, Sean and Rocky had their first interaction. From then on, they knew our program would be a perfect fit for Sean! This is where the “story” begins. What started as a hobby transformed into a passion. He began to see that the program did much more than just teaching 3D printing. It gave him a safe and entertaining space to be creative, learn, and sharpen his skills. With every print, the story deepens. Sean says that shortly after he started in our program, we became like family. As someone directly associated with the program, I can say that we feel the same for Sean.
We want to thank Richwood Coffee/Bank for giving back to our community as well as those who focus on helping others and making our world a better place. The Richwood Team is full of generous, kind, caring people and we are honored to be one of their beneficiaries!
Attached is the humorous but heartfelt speech that Sandy and Sean presented in front of the Richwood crowd.
